I work with people at turning points — navigating a relationship ending, questioning the direction their life is taking, or aware that something needs to change but not sure where to start.

As well as a clinician I am an academic at City St George's, University of London, founder of The Heartbreak Hotel and author of Finding Your Self at the Heartbreak Hotel (HarperCollins), translated into seven languages.

After three decades as a clinician, I now work exclusively through single session therapy — structured, one-off consultations designed to create real shift in one meeting.

Single session therapy

One session, Lasting impact

Black background with an orange concentric circle pattern on the left and a large solid beige circle on the right, partially overlapping.

Research shows the most common number of therapy sessions people attend is one. A recent review of over 400 clinical trials found that 83% reported positive outcomes from single-session interventions.

Every session I offer is designed to be complete in itself — a beginning, a middle, and an end. You don't need to commit to ongoing therapy to get something meaningful from a conversation with a psychologist.

Follow-up sessions are available if you want them, but there's no expectation of ongoing work. You set the pace.

This is for you if you're dealing with something you can't think your way through alone — a relationship ending, a decision you keep circling, a sense that something needs to shift — but you don't want or need ongoing weekly therapy. You just need to be ready to have an honest conversation.

If you're going through heartbreak or relationship loss, you might also want to visit The Heartbreak Hotel where I offer sessions focused on recovery from relationship endings.

  • You bring the thing that's been weighing on you — a relationship, a decision, a pattern you can't shift — and we work it through properly. There's space to tell the full story without rushing, and then to do something with it. Together we'll make sense of what's driving the situation, name what's been running quietly in the background, and build a clear picture of what needs to happen next. People leave understanding something about themselves they didn't when they began.

  • This isn't about fixing a problem — it's about working out what matters to you now. Something has shifted — a relationship, a role, a chapter — and the old answers don't fit anymore. Together we'll cut through the noise and identify four values that are genuinely yours, not inherited or borrowed. Those become your compass: a practical framework for making decisions about what comes next and building a future that means something to you.

If you have questions about the work - whether it’s right for you or which session to choose I’d be happy to answer your questions.

FAQs

  • A structured consultation with Alice, a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, designed to provide genuine psychological insight and practical direction. A 48-hour check-in by email — to see how things have landed and to answer anything that's come up since we spoke.

Optional: a comprehensive written summary (£50), including key patterns identified, your values framework, recommendations, and the action steps we discussed. If you opt for the written summary, sessions are securely recorded.

  • Exploration: You have time and space to share what you're struggling with while Alice listens strategically, tracking patterns and underlying dynamics. Together you examine what's happening, what's working, what's not, and what might be driving it. In a follow-up session, this is where we revisit what's shifted or surfaced since we last met.

Insight & Direction: Alice shares what she's noticing — identifying psychological patterns shaping the situation. Together you gain clarity and create a values-based framework for decision-making and practical steps for moving forward. In the Compass Session, this is where we build your compass — four values that are truly yours, to orient you when it matters most.
